Enrique Panés, director of the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome: «the RAER and the AAR probably not could have found better occasion to jointly develop a project of high cultural and artistic level that Antoni Muntadas has given us. Being an artist of great international prestige, with a long career as a teacher in one of the most famous universities of USA.UU. and world, American and Spanish nationality and with strong professional ties in Italy, Antoni Muntadas represents a paradigm of interrelations that our two academies have taken effectively. For the RAER, receive, in addition, the work of Giulio Squillacciotti, based on his personal experience of collaboration with Muntadas, is a good way to close a program of activities that departed from the idea of hospitality, raised by curator Maria Rosa Sossai and our post-graduate Avelino Sala. The participation of the Roman public will make the short distance that separates our academies the Gianicolo evidence solid cultural bridge we have built with the project Muntadas-Squillacciotti».

Christopher S. Celenza, director of the American Academy in Rome: «at the American Academy in Rome we are glad to cooperation with our friends and neighbors in House here at the Gianicolo, the Royal Academy of Spain in Roma.Admiramos its work in various cultural fields that, as it also happens to us, aspire to embrace different disciplines and to reflect the different perspectives of the world in which we live. ” The visit to Rome of Muntadas, opens a cultural horizon, in which the artistic endeavor interacts with the academic environment. “It is a perfect argument for a common project, which we hope will be followed in the future for other occasions to work together”. Intended as the centerpiece of the interaction between the two artists United by a professional relationship, a bridge between different generations dialogue creates a dialogue on the topic of academic knowledge and knowledge mediated by history, as well as the ability to open channels of communication between the different areas of artistic experience seemingly distant.

Dialogue is the final project part L’arte dell’ ospitalità, of María Rosa Sossai and Avelino Sala, inspired as a whole in the text about the hospitality of Jacques Derrida, who described the reception as a gift without any counterpart or the principle of reciprocity, while State to be guest in the double sense of who is staying and who is hosted – remember the French philosopher – puts everyone in the position of experiencing otherness. Cassetti ubicada, the intervention of Antoni Muntadas in the lounge of the portraits of the Royal Academy of Spain, puts into question and think about concepts such as access, closing, curiosity, privacy or transparency; it circulates information that leads to the transformation and the creation of a private space which, thanks to the intervention of the artist, becomes public. The gesture of opening the drawers and doors is an exercise of freedom, a formative experience in its simplicity, as well as a powerful metaphor for the creative process. Almost half of the history of Giulio Squillacciotti records the spaces of the Royal Academy of Spain, along a route described by an attentive visitor. The narration that is charting emerges a place without time preserving the memory of the past. The library, the books, the knowledge incorporated in the synthesis of a method that preserves and disseminates, a place of conservation, transmitted from generation to generation. The librarian as the artist applies a criterion of analysis and the context of this method aims to educate the younger generations. The Pact between the method of conservation / book becomes the leitmotif of the film.
